The DISCOVER Stream

The Discover Stream is designed as an introduction
to aspects of the Christian faith, so that together with others
people can better discern God’s call to the way of Christ.
In church or in community, people can renew their spirituality and
find confidence for ministry. It offers a chance to do serious theological
study in a small group without the requirements of award or degree
courses.
The typical workload for a topic in the Discover Stream is around
25 hours, including 8 sessions of 90 minutes each plus time for
individual study.
The Discover Stream includes the possibility of
completing topics:
• Without individual assessment
• With individual assessment
The study process
The College provides self-study materials. These are clearly set
out to allow you to progress step by step. One person is appointed
leader of the group.
Students work in a local group with a minimum of three people. Members
of the group enrol together.
Assessment
Assessment is based on completing the tasks in the workbook. There
are no essays or exams.

The EXPLORE Stream
VET Sector Learning at Certificate IV level
for Lay Preachers and other Leaders

The Explore Stream is about discipleship: helping
people search out the meaning of an active faith and a living spirituality,
take seriously the call to minds transformed in Christ, and enhance
their competence in ministry. It gives people the chance to do serious
theological study without the requirements of a tertiary degree.
It offers the option of a Certificate and a Diploma course, as well
as providing the academic component of Accredited Lay Preacher training
within the Uniting Church in Australia.
The Explore Stream includes the following options
for study programmes:
• Individual topics
• The Academic requirements for the UCA Lay Preachers’
Certificate (6 topics)
• The Certificate IV in Ministry (10 topics; awarded by Adelaide
College of Divinity)
• The Diploma in Pastoral Ministry (20 topics; awarded by
Adelaide College of Divinity)

The Deepen [Higher Education] Stream is for those
who seek critical understanding at the cutting edge of learning.
These topics can help people see Christian faith at depth, journey
into the heart of spirituality and discipleship, sharpen existing
leadership skills or learn new ones, and take up exciting challenges
in ministry. Yet the intention goes beyond those who see themselves
as practising Christians.
For anyone new to theological issues, these topics open the way
to serious and disciplined study on critical questions of life,
meaning, tradition, and renewed purpose. Such questions inform the
learning not only in Theology topics, but also in the areas of Biblical
Studies, Church History, and various applications of practical ministry.
Professional development is now an expectation in most workplaces.
The Deepen Stream offers those already in ministry, ordained or
lay, the chance to undertake further theological study at the highest
standards of tertiary education. There are several options for Degree
and Postgraduate programmes which make this Stream ideally suited
for Ministers and other church leaders pursuing formal Continuing
Education within the Uniting Church in Australia.
